Welcome to the A3GMunitions.com Long Gong Match and Web Page!
Long Gong is contested with 22 rifles only chambered in 22 Short, Long or Long Rifle. 22 WMR (magnum) and other rimfire variants as well as center fire calibers are not allowed.
Matches are held at River Bend Gun Club on the third Sunday of the month and we alternate between the Silhouette and High Power ranges for 2025. The Shooter’s meeting is at 8:45AM and first shot is 9AM; we should be done by 4PM.
The Game: Each shooter will shoot 5 relays of 10 rounds each for a total of 50 shots. You will shoot your first relay of 10 rounds and then the next competitor will shoot 10 and so on until all competitors have shot their first relay and then relay 2 starts. Long Gong targets are at approximately 300 yards. There are three steel targets per relay, one each of 8″, 6″ and 4″. There are no “sighters” or practice shots allowed. When it is your turn, you begin by engaging the 8″ target. If you hit the target you may opt to shoot the 6″ target. If you hit the 6″ target you may proceed to the 4″ target. You cannot proceed to the next smaller target until you hit the preceding target and a miss on one of the smaller targets means you have to go back to the next larger target. You do not have to advance to the smaller target if you hit, you may continue to engage the same target until you miss. Hits on target earn you points, 8″ earns 1 point, 6″ earns 2 points and 4″ earns 3 points. A miss, or a hit on the wrong target is 0 points and requires that you go back to the next larger target. Hitting the support chain or hangers for a target does not count as a hit on target. A perfect score for a relay is 27 points, for a match it is 135 points. The match winner is the one with the most points. Ties are broken by the shooter with the highest single relay score or in the case of multiple shooters with perfect relays the number of perfect relay scores.
General Rules: All guns will need to have the bolt removed or a chamber flag at all times when they are not on the “active bench”. Shooters will shoot from a bench using a bag or bipod only (no sleds) for the first several matches (we may introduce more divisions and varied shooting positions down the road). All shooters and guns will be in the same division at least initially. Over the first few months we will assess the results and we may add divisions if needed at some point. Once it is their turn, Shooters will have 90 seconds to fire their first round. Shooters will have 3 minutes to complete each relay of 10 rounds. Any shots unfired after the 3-minute time limit will be considered misses. Shooters may engage targets at their own pace but they must tell the spotter which target they are engaging and hit that target to earn a point. If a shooter out-shoots the speed at which the spotter can call the hits they will receive misses for any shots not able to be called. There will be wind indicators placed on the range by the MD but there will be no other wind flags allowed. Shooters may use ballistic applications or Kestrels as they see fit as long as they are able to do so while finishing in the allotted time. The shooter does not have to single load their firearm. There will be a spotter calling hits and there may be flashers on the targets. Spotter calls are final – we will not go down range to examine targets for hits and targets will not be painted between shooters. Any items/issues that arise that are not addressed in these rules will be ruled upon by the match director at that time.
Shooting order: The initial order will be determined by a randomization of names in Practiscore. for subsequent relays the lowest overall score will shoot first. In the case of competitors who are tied they will alternate going one before the other.
As growth and the number of competitors demands we will add additional firing points and target arrays to ensure that the match moves along at a good pace.
Registration will be done primarily via Practiscore and there is a waiver that must be agreed to as part of the registration process. Minors must be accompanied to the match by a parent or guardian over the age of 18; non-parent guardians must have a letter from the minor’s parent or legal guardian granting permission for their participation. Walk-ups will be allowed. You do not have to be a member of RBGC to participate.
